Ask and you shall receive. The dance between the self and the terrible happenings of the world.

Ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. To those who seek much, then much is in turn expected. Balance. Energy must be given to align to the frequency of that which we seek.

When I was younger, I was obsessed with the concept of Fibonacci’s sequence, a concept which was actually initially discovered by the Indian scholar Pingala. Patterns that replicate themselves continuously throughout the universe. Minute fragments of a greater whole that exist on every layer, structure and fabric of being. Like how stars and human beings are sort of made of the same components. I’m fascinated by patterns…by how habits and sequences are inescapable. It doesn’t matter what we do to prove their uniqueness; they follow the same predefined set of rules that govern their existence. Even abstraction and randomization are accounted for in our patterns.

The human tries to position themselves as a creature that is above patterns, above predictability. Yet we are the most predictable of all. We are victims to our physical bodies and often choose to ignore that these are just but vessels for the soul. We chose these vehicles as a means for our soul, the true essence of our being, to experience itself through this elaborately constructed reality. We pride ourselves on our beliefs and choices, when these are unoriginal and formed within the constructs of what the human brain can comprehend. Within the traditions of my ancestors, this principle could be found, that our bodies house the soul, and our true essence can take different bodies once the previous one moves on to the next life. Reincarnation.

I was thinking the other day, about certain principles of Neuroscience that inadvertently prove to me that the body, or rather, the brain, is a vessel that downloads consciousness rather than it being the source of consciousness itself. It is a vessel so adeptly fine-tuned to receive the soul and expose it to this unified reality. Think of the body as parts pieced together in a well-oiled system. A predefined pattern that yields a certain outcome, based on the variables that surround its momentary state of being. Everything is in essence, a form of programming. Every creature acts in line with the vessel that the soul resides in, like a phone and laptop and radio performs different functions, but electronics as a principle remains the same. Every being exists and perceives within the spectrum of its chosen reality.

So, let’s begin this assessment of the concept of humanity and living organisms. What in essence, defines a living thing? Frogs are living, ants are living, phones are non-living, by what measures do we categorize these classes as living or non-living. In classical taxonomy, organisms are classified based on physical and relational traits. Perhaps these classifications are enough…or not. Modern taxonomy incorporates genetic data in classification. The breaking down of entire organisms into minute representations to further understand the nature, characteristics and varied elements that make up that being. The further we break, the more abstract it all becomes, fragments all made up of the same elements in varied measures that come together to form different aspects of physical reality. We are made of star stuff as Carl Sagan said. Up until the quantum scale, we get to realize that there is nothing, no divisible qualities, nothing differs from the next, we are simply the same thing manifested in different forms. There is no other, because we are all one.

So, in essence the tree is as much alive as the cat and the rock is just as alive as we are, only in a different manner than we are, based on how its minute components are arranged. We are only aspects here to play our part. Like the characters I used to play around with on my Nintendo switch, confined to a world whose variables we must align to and play by. The thing is, we have the power to change the variables, we have the power to shift social perspectives rather than align to them. We have the power to recognize that every being has the right to exist equally without being bent and stuffed into a box. Everything has the right to experience its reality as long as it does not infringe on the sovereignty and autonomy of another.

Why do bad things happen to good people? My perspective is that there is no good or bad, just like everything in existence, it is perspective. There is always a consequence to every action carried out by a being, if not in physical life, the soul is scarred and faces the consequence. It depends on the perspective of the soul whether the consequence is worth it or not. On the subject of infringed autonomy of disenfranchised peoples, like children who are sold against their will or the violent rape of women or even the ethnic cleansing of entire societies. A sore subject, but one I must face as it sheds light on my own soul and the overall souls of the collective. To look at this, I’ll turn to the mistreatment of animals on our farms and in slaughterhouses to serve our need as human beings to consume animals. I’ll turn to enslavement of native Africans to provide cheap labour for the world. I’ll turn to the decimation caused by plastics and fossil fuels on the planet. I’ll turn to the devastation of entire communities due to natural disasters. I’ll turn to the lion hunting and killing the antelope for food. All these things are perceived as negative occurrences; the perpetrators are different and varied…the perpetrators did, or do not perceive these things as wrong until their perspectives are expanded, which is why slave trade is frowned upon now for example. What measure of bad or good do we use?

Terrible things happen every day. We have no control over it. These cycles repeat over and over and over again. There is always something perceived as bad happening somewhere every millisecond. It is true, yet every person perceives themselves as a greater victim than the next. Punishing themselves and others over and over again, wallowing in self-pity and sadness. Punishing others just like they were punished by others. Continuing the cycle of pain, abuse and hurt. Stealing the autonomy and light of others just like theirs was stolen. But no one can steal anything from you. The cycle can be broken by forgiving ourselves and others, recognizing our pain and holding ourselves in our entirety with grace then in turn holding the entirety of the universe with the same grace. So, I ask…What is left that no one can take?

Jesus said in Matthew 5:39: “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
It is not about self-sacrifice; I think it is about braving this all-consuming world with your heart on your sleeve. Facing harm and remembering that harm takes nothing from you at all, remembering your sovereignty regardless of this world telling you that you are nothing and no one at all. Remembering that the source of all that is holds infinite love for us within. The universe is not all about good but embracing the narrative and remembering your soul and who you are. Taking a leap into the lessons and recognizing the universe, other beings and other humans, plants, animals, rocks as yourself and acting in accordance with your ideals. Honouring them as you honour yourself with infinite love just like the divine. Just like the unseen force, Amun.

Maat. The natural rhythms of life and the pattern of all that is. We must all play our part. Take our actions and brave the consequences. Though in my opinion to truly be merged with the divine source, you must function in love and authenticity. You must shed the perspectives of this realm and remember your soul. You must be present and watchful of your own actions and how you show up in the world. We must embrace our responsibility and sovereignty and remember, that everything that happens around us is as a direct result of what we do, what we perpetuate and what we say. The energy that we give out is reflected back to us, the universe is our mirror. The worst punishment is separation from source because it in turn means separation from the self in pursuit of physicality, even though source extends free will due to unconditional love. Density is darkness and remembrance is the light. They exist as a balance, but light always overcomes dark no matter how minute the light is. The density is left to exist to in turn draw us back into remembrance. Which is why religion is the opium of the masses, something that can temporarily numb the pain of physical life and be a catalyst for remembrance but can in turn be abused and misconstrued into something that draws us away from remembrance. Words are spells, that is why propaganda is dangerous because it can make or break societies based upon the intention of the ones crafting said propaganda. Everything is a form of propaganda, because it is in the nature of people to force their perspectives on other people, drowning out your own perspective. It is the individual responsibility to filter and choose what aligns to your internal frequency. Do not believe everything you see, hear or read. Don’t even believe me. I just share my own perspective. Sit in silence, look within, find your own soul and embrace your perspective. Be brave in your authenticity. Be brave in love for yourself and for others. Maybe, just maybe, in this cycle we can begin healing our version of earth. But it must all begin within. Or must it?
